Jefferson Parish Federation of Teachers project is seeking a community organizer. This position is supervised by a Lead Organizer/ and Project Director and also to work in conjunction with the Jefferson Parish Federation of Teachers leadership. Organizers perform a number of duties, including building coalitions with the community, helping build a positive narrative around public education with partners in the community, recruiting new members, identifying potential leaders and activists, and tracking data in their assigned areas. Our organizing work includes consolidation within established locals, working with Organizing Committees to build new locals, and new organizing in the associate membership program.
Applicants should have a working knowledge of unions and a strong commitment to the labor movement. Some organizing experience is a plus, but not a requirement. This job requires often long and irregular hours, some weekend work, and travel.
