Position Description:
The Creative Lead will create and develop visual storytelling across multiple platforms, using both photography and videography to inform and engage our target audiences. A successful Creative Lead is a versatile, collaborative self-starter with a strong visual design background — someone who keeps up with digital trends and is experienced in creating original content for social media marketing campaigns, websites, apps, and other digital media properties for nonprofits, companies, or political campaigns. Compassion for others and a commitment to supporting working people struggling to have a better life are musts for this position. The Creative Lead will work in our Washington, DC office.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Develops and manage video content:
Produces video content for our broad portfolio of digital projects, ranging from filming & editing testimonials from worker leaders to crafting motion design explainer videos.
Designs graphics & social media content:
Uses a wide range of digital media tools to create graphic content for our social media and digital campaign resources. This includes compositing existing photo & vector assets with typography, as well as developing new graphics to tell the gamut of our union stories online.
Creates compelling print materials for outreach:
Produces designs for print-ready handbills, brochures, and t-shirts that are used for community outreach for both non-union worker and customer audiences. Works with our union printing partners to prepare jobs for production and shipment.
Develops & maintain web page resources:
Uses our content management platforms (WordPress & Wix) to develop, design, and update a wide range of web content for our strategic organizing campaigns on UFCW.org and other campaign microsites.
Collaborates with union organizers, other union staff, and worker leaders:
Works directly with stakeholders across UFCW, especially worker leaders on our digital organizing campaigns to produce content that best serves the strategic needs of our digital organizing field team.
Duties, responsibilities and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned at any time, in the UFCW’s discretion. UFCW employees function as a team and, occasionally, and on a temporary basis, employees may be required to perform tasks usually performed by others. This might occur if a team member is absent or unavailable to complete a project and the team is responsible for the deadline. Because employees are required to work as a team, you are required to step up and fill in for a team member who is absent or needs assistance from time to time.

Education and/or Experience
At least three years of relevant experience, or at least two years of relevant experience combined with a bachelor’s degree in film, graphic design, web design, visual communications, advertising, multi-media or comparable experience in related fields. Experience working in a retail environment, a plus.
Digital Media Storytelling
Demonstrated ability to conceive and execute inspiring, visually engaging digital designs and effective visual graphics such as infographics, social media graphics, digital ads, email templates, logos, and more for social issues like labor organizing or political campaigns. Excellent visual design skills with sensitivity to user-system interaction.
Computer/Software Skills
- Proven videography, video editing, photography, photo editing and general graphic design skills.
- Ability and willingness to work with a variety of CRM and CMS tools. Fluency in professional print and web design standards and principles. Expert knowledge of a wide variety of multimedia software such as, but not limited to: full Adobe Creative Suite with a focus on Illustrator, Premiere Pro, Photoshop, and After Effects; as well as WordPress & Wix Web Editors, and audio editing software.
Communication Skills
Ability to work with stakeholders about how to optimize creative work for our end users, as well as to collaborate with Digital Department staff on various projects for ads campaigns, direct actions and other projects on the ground and online.
Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Proficient understanding of and passion for typography, composition, and color.
- Innovative portfolio of work exhibiting high-level design skills.
- Must be results-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to prioritize projects and activities.
- Must possess ability to think strategically and exercise a high level of judgment.
Job Demands
Experience working in a fast-paced environment with quick turn arounds. Be a problem solver with the ability to multitask and work effectively under deadlines. Work requires limited overnight travel and/or occasional irregular or unpredictable hours.
Working Conditions
The work is performed in a normal office environment or may be performed at various designated work locations throughout the United States or Canada. Attendance at rallies, meetings or events off-site and outside of normal working hours may be required. The noise level in a normal office environment is moderate.
COMPENSATION
Salary Range: $66,931 – $84,445.
