About AFT-Kansas
AFT-Kansas is rebuilding for the long haul—tightened governance, member-first service, and strong partnerships. This new Statewide Field Organizer (Locals Support) will prioritize locals without dedicated organizers, delivering hands-on support, building durable capacity, and honoring boundary agreements.

What you’ll do (top outcomes in the first 6–12 months)

  • Member Service & Capacity: Run structured 1:1s, map workplaces, grow leaders/committees, and stand-up steward systems.
  • Campaigns: Execute issue, internal, and growth campaigns; support bargaining and contract campaigns; coordinate GOTV/legislative mobilization when applicable.
  • Training: Design and deliver practical trainings (steward basics, conversations, turnout, data hygiene).
  • Data/Systems: Track contacts, commitments, and metrics in union databases; produce simple dashboards for locals.
  • Coalition & Boundaries: Coordinate with WHLF/AFL-CIO partners and allied coalitions; pre-clear any potential overlap with AAUP/KNEA/SEIU per our boundaries.
  • Logistics: Travel statewide; plan events/meetings; handle follow-through with locals and staff.

Minimum qualifications

  • 2+ years’ organizing experience (union, community, or issue campaigns) with clear wins and leader development.
  • Strong relational chops: you listen well, move people to action, and follow through.
  • Training facilitation experience; clear, concise writing.
  • Comfort with spreadsheets/CRMs and basic data tracking.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation; ability to work some nights/weekends; in-state travel.

Preferred

  • Experience in K-12, higher education, or healthcare units.
  • Familiarity with Kansas labor/education landscape, and with tools like VAN/Action Network/Unionware (or similar).
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus.
