The ICWUC Center for Worker Health and Safety Education empowers workers through education to work with employers and their communities as advocates for health and safety.

Bargaining Unit: International Chemical Workers Representatives Union

Salary: All educational staff work a 35-hour week with travel and additional hours as needed. This position's annual starting salary is $73,951. This position also includes a significant benefits package.

Position Summary:
The Instructor teaches all modules in the four day Emergency Response class for the ICWUC Center for Worker Health and Safety and assists with all other classes.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

  • All Educational staff teach emergency response and hazardous waste classes in Cincinnati and at various national locations. Topics include use of personal protective equipment, rights and responsibilities, resources, hands-on spill response and other related topics to the membership of seven participating organizations. All Educational staff must be able to move and prep equipment and assist with the hands-on spill response.
  • Assists with teaching other grant modules on an as needed basis.
  • Expected to lead hands on activities and overall class lead within one year of hire.
  • Educational staff should become authorized to teach OSHA and ASHI classes.
  • Assists with Plume Software classes.
  • Assists with the Infectious Disease Response program.
  • Assist with information for grant progress reports and grant applications.
  • Liaison work with UFCW headquarters and locals.

Qualifications
Education and/or Experience

  • This job requires a minimum of three years experience in adult labor education and knowledge of occupational health and safety.    
  • Experience in chemical emergency response and/or hazardous waste worker education programs and work with the unions in our Consortium is preferred as is labor and community outreach experience.

Professional Skills

  • Must have strong communication skills, particularly in working with labor and community organizations and outreach efforts to companies.  
  • Ability to professionally compose correspondence, coordinate and perform a wide range of training related support duties of a highly responsible nature. Must be able to work independently. The ability to be self-directed and demonstrate strong attention to details. Must have excellent organizational skills. Ability to organize and prioritize work assignments.

Computer/Software Skills
Ability to organize and prepare complex documents requiring the integration of multiple office technology and software including word processing applications. Must be able to use search engines to research health and safety topics.

Communication Skills
Ability to demonstrate oral and written communication skills, maintain a professional and pleasant telephone demeanor, and articulate rules, policies and procedures.

Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required

  • Ability to spell correctly, use proper grammar and punctuation, format and proof documents.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  
  • Ability to make independent decisions and exercise good judgment.

Work Environment: The work is performed in a normal office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical Demands
The position involves but is not limited to, written and oral communication skills, keyboard use, close vision, sitting for long periods, stooping, bending, and reaching.
