Research Analyst

Position will cover the NY-NJ-CT tri-state area, with regular work out of Newark, NJ and New York, NY

The Union has approximately 460 staff in sixteen offices from Boston to Miami. 32BJ SEIU represents over 175,000 property service workers including janitors, security officers, airport workers, and food service employees in 11 states and Washington, DC. 32BJ is an affiliate of SEIU, the Service Employees International Union, which has 2 million members dedicated to raising industry standards and making life better for all working families and communities.

32BJ SEIU’s headquarters are in New York City. The Research Analyst will cover the NY-NJ-CT tri-state area, with regular work out of Newark and New York, and travel within the region.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
32BJ SEIU is looking for a Research Analyst who could have experience in a variety of disciplines: planning, journalism, economics, policy, union organizing or racial and economic justice campaigns.

The Research Analyst will support our New York, New Jersey and Connecticut industry bargaining and organizing campaign, as well as our work maintaining our presence within public contracting sectors. The Research Analyst will work in collaboration with our union leaders, industry workers, communications and political organizers. This includes:

  • Conducting research on corporate and industry levels, utilizing a wide variety of primary and secondary sources, to formulate corporate and legislative strategies
  • Transforming research findings to create weekly and quarterly work plans that advance campaign and industry goals
  • Writing documents for different audiences, including in-depth, technical white papers, talking points, testimony, and information for workers
  • Serving as the union-expert for questions related to the real estate industry, worker issues, regulations, procurement processes and service companies
  • Leading or collaborating in field research efforts such as designing surveys, interviews with low-wage workers, drafting regulatory or legal complaints
  • Working closely with the legal staff to ensure compliance for campaign pieces
  • Developing relationships with subject-matter technical experts and community partners

QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least two years of professional work experience in the labor movement or community, racial justice, immigrant rights organizing, or other relevant progressive work
  • Strong commitment to progressive social change. Enthusiastic commitment to strengthening the labor movement
  • Strong research skills and ability to apply research to development of strategic organizing campaigns
  • Experience with a variety of sources and good quantitative skills. Excellent writing ability
  • Excellent political and internal organizational skills
  • Ability to work well under tight deadlines and in a team environment. Ability to learn quickly. Highly motivated and a self-starter

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is a full time position that occasionally requires long and irregular hours, including some nights, weekends and holidays. This includes attending rallies and marches.

The position requires travel within the region.

COMNPENSATION & BENEFITS
We are hiring for one position that, depending on the candidate’s skills and experience, will either be a Research Analyst or Research Analyst II. The salary for each position is:

  • Research Analyst: $68,211
  • Research Analyst II: $75,466

32BJ offers a full benefits package that includes employer-paid medical, dental and vision plans for full-time employees and their qualified dependents. The Union currently offers a remote work policy of one remote day per week at the discretion of the manager.
