Contract Administrator/Workplace Organizer

NAPE/AFSCME Local 61 currently has a Contract Administrator/Workplace Organizer position open in Lincoln, NE.

Job Description
This union field staff position provides representation to members in their assigned worksites. This includes grievance filing through arbitration level, assisting and training stewards, working with our coalition partners, lobbyists and other trade unions, internal organizing and political action.

Other duties, might include, but not limited to: writing memos, publishing social media articles, authoring newsletters articles.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assist with collective bargaining.
  • Lead, advise and assist with disciplinary investigations, grievances, appeals and arbitrations.
  • Recruit, develop and train stewards.
  • Regular visits to assigned worksites.
  • Implementation of organizing campaigns and organizing strategies.
  • Plan and implement PEOPLE initiatives to foster increased member participation in AFSMCE political programs.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • At least 3 or more years of related work experience, particularly with public sector unions.
  • Experience and leadership skills to train, motivate and educate members/workers.
  • Ability to write member communications, newsletter articles and contract language.
  • Knowledge and /or ability to acquire computer skills.
  • Willingness to work long, irregular hours and occasional weekends.
  • Knowledge of labor unions, labor relations and public sector law.
