The San Francisco Municipal Executives Association (MEA) represents over 1,000 City and County of San Francisco, San Francisco Superior Court, and San Francisco Housing Authority Managers.

The Deputy Director’s Primary Duties Include:

  • Sitting second chair for six (6) collectively bargained agreements which includes identifying contract issues as they arise; developing and analyzing member surveys; drafting contract language and conducting relevant research; all in consultation with member committees and representatives
  • Administering the labor agreements and representing members in various settings and at various City agencies including Skelly hearings, arbitrations, and investigative interviews
  • Designing, writing, and organizing the distribution of publications, including monthly newsletters, campaign literature, and website updates
  • Preparing and presenting regular reports to the Board and Membership on issues such as compensation, budget and political action
  • Identifying and engaging future member leaders in MEA initiatives
  • Overseeing the administrative functions of the office including membership, budget and Board meetings
  • With approval of the Board acts as Executive Director in absence of the ED.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Executive Director

Necessary Skills:

  • Excellent leadership, analytical, research, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Negotiation skills that feature active listening, complex analysis, creativity, problem solving, and common sense
  • Ability to see multifaceted projects through all stages to timely completion
  • Ability to organize and juggle multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in difficult situations and to handle highly confidential information with integrity and discretion
  • Ability to influence others with thoughtful and precise analysis
  • Ability to take complex issues and articulate them clearly and simply

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Advanced degree highly preferred
  • At least five years’ experience in labor relations including participating in contract negotiations
  • At least three years’ experience in a supervisory role involving other labor professionals
  • Proficiency with computer programs including O365, WordPress, and other social media platforms.

This position is an exempt, at-will position with a salary range between $120,000 and $140,000. The position requires some evening and weekend work. The position includes employer paid employee health benefits and a retirement account with 3% employer match.
