Accounts Receivable Specialist
Finance Department

Based in Landover, MD


Position Purpose: The primary responsibility is the management of data for membership demographics and dues payment information. Responsibilities will also include union member application retention. This position has regular interface with Local 400 staff and employer administrators.

General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Rapid, precise data entry of member applications for manual companies using electronic imaging (AnyDOC) including occasional manual entry of member applications
  • Ensures accurate and timely data entry of union dues for assigned constituent companies consisting of electronic and manual postings
  • Lead on troubleshooting any issues that may come up associated with assigned constituent companies
  • Update financial and demographic member records regularly and accurately
  • Process and issue refunds for any overpayment of membership dues
  • Responds to inquiries, from staff, in relation to member request
  • Ensures data entry follows the guidelines set for proper database management
  • Month-end reconciliation with accounting to ensure accuracy of receipts
  • Reconciliation of union member dues for assigned constituent companies
  • Maintain the security and integrity of all Local 400 data

Scope and Nature of Supervision: The position is located in the Landover, Maryland office and will primarily report to the Comptroller.

Physical Requirements: Working conditions consists of a normal office environment with no other special requirements. Core work hours are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Sitting at a computer workstation for extended period; lifting up to 20 pounds. Employees must recognize that working in the labor movement is tough, demanding work, which sometimes requires working long or irregular hours, including some evenings and weekends. Limited travel may be required.

Required Skills, Abilities, and Experience

  • Ability to work with high degree of accuracy and attention to detail is a must
  • Ability to work independently for extended periods of time to accomplish daily responsibilities
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook is required
  • Familiarity with complex relational databases and basic bookkeeping,
  • Proficient with data entry
  • Ability to work well intra and inter-departmentally and in a team atmosphere
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (both verbal and written) skills
  • Demonstrated effective and efficient customer service and problem solving ability
  • Skilled at prioritizing work and working well under pressure; ability to multi-task
  • Demonstrate honest and sincere character
  • Commitment to the Labor movement and building long-term power for working people

Classification: This is a full time, FLSA exempt position
