Santa Clara County Residents for Responsible Development is comprised of four Union Building Trades Crafts: United Association 393, Sprinkler Fitters 483, IBEW 332, and Sheet Metal Workers Local 104. We are dedicated to strengthening our membership, expanding political influence in Santa Clara County, and strengthening the rights of all workers. We want our members to build and work in their own community and to be on projects throughout Santa Clara County. The MEPS acronym stands for Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Sprinkler Fitters.

The MEPS Field Coordinator job responsibilities include:

Member Engagement and Mobilization

  • Organizing events and activities to engage union members in our campaigns
  • Establish numerical goals and strategies to ensure strong turn-out
  • Ability to function as a trainer and facilitator
  • Encourage, foster, and develop the skills of interested members to play leading roles in public speaking, organizing, and community ally building efforts.

Community Engagement

  • Developing and maintaining relationships with key community and labor partners
  • Community ally building with the expectation to meet with at least 2 community groups a week
  • Represent the organization at community meetings, public hearings, or any meetings/events where we are asked to speak, when called to do so

Communications and Media

  • Utilizing digital and new media for all aspects of communications work
  • Managing and creating social media and website content
  • Shooting and curating photos on websites and social media pages
  • Creating materials for internal and external use by campaign teams -- talking points, fact sheets, memes, PowerPoint presentations, etc.
  • Training spokespeople for public hearings, press conferences, and interviews

Administrative Support

  • Supports the MEPS Director with day-to-day administrative functions
  • Takes meeting minutes and prepares meeting agendas and materials
  • Supports organizers and rank-and-file leaders with administrative support as needed


  • Enthusiastic, organized, creative, and the ability to function effectively in a dynamic and diverse work environment
  • Experience in membership mobilization for organizations
  • Skilled in written communication and in verbal reporting
  • Highly efficient teamwork style complemented by independent work habits
  • Outstanding ability to simultaneously manage numerous demands through to completion, involving voluminous detail, often with quick turnaround
  • Enjoy large, complex, fast-paced environments
  • Experience participating in a leadership team
  • Competent in administrative duties and creating efficiencies for a team
  • Willingness to work long hours, including some evenings and weekends
  • Willing to sign a conflict of interest form and full disclosure of other commitments

Annual salary range of $80-100k depending on qualifications and experience plus benefits
Full-time position based on 40+ hours of work
