Clips Coordinator
Residuals Department

Based in Los Angeles, CA

The Residuals Department of the Writers Guild of America West, is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Clips Coordinator. This position is a full-time, non-exempt (hourly) position with full benefits. The salary range for this position begins at $45,000 annualized.

Under the supervision of the Residuals Administrator, the Clips Coordinator is responsible for residual payments and other work pertaining to clips in various markets. The Residuals Department ensures that writers are paid residuals due under the residual provisions of the Basic Agreements from 1953 to 2017.


  • Analyzes and investigates potential claims of violations of the excerpts provisions of the collective bargaining agreement as part of the grievance and arbitration process
  • Identifies, locates and requests clip payment from production companies on behalf of writers
  • Confirms writing credits for all clips used and calculates the amount due each of the writers
  • Works closely with the Guild’s Finance Department by providing case summaries, forwarding checks, allocating small accountings and providing Excel spreadsheets
  • Handles inquiries from members, companies, agents, and business representatives regarding excerpt inquiries and payments
  • Resolves problems when payments are incorrect by contacting paying entity via letter, email and/or telephone
  • Logs payment identification data into the Guild’s residuals payments database
  • Responsible for handling a caseload involving the collection of clips and interest
  • Researches and reviews various agreements, including but not limited to writing services agreements, license and distribution agreements, and assumption agreements
  • Prepares detailed Excel spreadsheets of clips owed
  • Writes demand letters to companies and follows up until residuals are paid
  • Attempts to resolve claims with company representatives but if unable to resolve, prepares and files arbitration claims for transfer to the Guild’s Legal Services department
  • Other duties as required
  • Overtime may be required


  • Must have organizational, time management and math skills; type 50 wpm and operate a 10-key by touch
  • Computer literacy with proficiency in Word and Excel is essential as the position involves creating detailed and often lengthy spreadsheets to calculate excerpts
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills and attention to detail required
  • Must be able to comprehend and interpret the MBA and present concise written requests for payment
  • Must have the ability to interact diplomatically, both in person and on the telephone with individuals regarding confidential and sensitive issues
  • Must exercise good discretion
  • Must be able to perform all duties and tasks in a fast-paced department with deadlines, efficiently prioritize workload and ensure timely completion of required tasks
