The Union of American Physicians and Dentists is a dynamic and progressive labor union representing over 4,000 physicians, dentists, and podiatrists. Most of our members work for public employers, including the State of California, the City and County of San Francisco, and the University of California. Job Duties

  • Serve as labor representative for multiple UAPD facilities and employers in Northern California
  • Conduct internal organizing for specific campaigns and maintaining high membership numbers
  • Integrate internal organizing into all activities on behalf of membership
  • Negotiate and administer collective bargaining agreements
  • Handle grievances up to the level of arbitration
  • Represent members in disciplinary proceedings
  • Develop and support rank and file leadership
  • Lead regular unit membership meetings
  • Assist with external organizing campaigns as needed
  • Work collaboratively with the President, Executive Director and other staff to promote the activities and objectives of the union


  • A minimum of three years’ experience as a labor representative is required
  • Experience in external organizing is highly preferred
  • Experience representing public sector employees, especially those employed by the State of California, counties, or public universities, is desirable
  • Experience working with medical professionals is desirable
  • Demonstrated ability to work with highly educated, professional union membership
  • Demonstrated success at contract negotiations, grievance processing and organizing new members
  • Experience working with elected officials is desirable
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Computer literacy, with willingness to learn how to use new technology as needed
  • Skilled at managing workload, working independently, and reporting concrete results to staff and supervisors
  • Willingness and ability to travel, and to work non-traditional hours, including nights and weekends
  • Valid driver's license and automobile
