Senior Organizer – Bay Area

Based in Northern California

Responsibilities: Senior Organizers will be the principal drivers of an ambitious organizing campaign. Responsibilities will include identifying and supporting worker leaders, managing organizing staff, developing workplans, monitoring and ensuring progress, and providing input on strategic direction. Specific responsibilities will include: Building a program to identify, recruit and develop workplace leaders, mapping workplaces and tracking overall support, and facilitating worker organizing committee meetings. Long and irregular hours and weekend work may be required to meet the campaign’s goals.

  • Ability to identify, recruit, and develop leaders from a diverse workforce
  • Multiple years of organizing experience with demonstrated success in new organizing campaigns
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit new members and develop leaders
  • Ability to train and mentor new organizing staff or union member leaders in the basics of organizing and help them achieve recruitment goals
  • Able to balance multiple priorities, including organizing, communications, and political strategies
  • Able to solve problems and think strategically
  • Ability to produce regular campaign updates and assessments
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with NLRB board elections and knowledge of internal organizing principles a plus
  • Experience utilizing social media and online tools in organizing drives
  • Knowledge of:
  • Fundamental union organizing and campaign planning principles
  • Labor law, especially with respect to union organizing
  • Able to discern priorities and meet competing deadlines
  • Enthusiasm for working directly with workers to develop leadership skills and move them to action
  • Able to quickly build a professional and team atmosphere while meeting tight deadlines
  • Fluency in a language other than English an added benefit
