IATSE Local 800, Art Directors Guild is a local union representing Art Directors, Assistant Art Directors, Production Designers; Set Designers and Model Makers; Scenic, Title and Graphic Artists; and Illustrators and Matte Artists (including Storyboard and Previs Artists) in the Entertainment Industry. Our office is located in Studio City, CA but our jurisdiction for Art Directors is coast to coast (except New York City).

Position – Organizer

IATSE Local 800 seeks a creative and results-oriented Organizer for the design, implementation and analysis of a wide variety of campaigns, including internal and external organizing, with the objective of building a stronger Union.

The Organizer will perform a variety of tasks related to organizing which may vary according to assignment, and may require the exercise of discretion and independent judgment.

The Organizer will receive direction from the Executive Director and Associate Executive Director and must be able to prioritize her or his time and carry out assignments with minimal supervision.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee, under the direction of the Executive Director and Associate Executive Director, all internal and external organizing campaigns.
  • Work with members and staff to develop and implement organizing strategies;
  • Write organizing leaflets and other campaign materials;
  • Make effective use of social media in organizing campaigns;
  • Manage lists, charts and databases related to organizing;
  • Develop worksite leaders and organizing committees;
  • Meet goals and deadlines;
  • Analyze and develop targets for organizing;
  • Work with representatives from other IATSE locals on production-based organizing actions;
  • Compile analytics into reports;
  • Engage Union and community activists in campaigns, mobilizing members and others to participate in organizing efforts;
  • Provide recommendations to help move Union forward by working directly with the Union leadership and staff.

Qualifications

  • College degree preferred, High School diploma required.
  • At least two years of experience as a union organizer or comparable experience in organizing and/or Labor.
  • Willingness to work irregular hours (including nights and weekends) as needed to accomplish goals.
  • Be a forward-thinking, bold and creative self-starter;
  • Work effectively as part of a team;
  • Possess a high level of written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to work under pressure and exercise good judgement;
  • Ability to work independently while remaining accountable and responsible to senior staff and organizational goals.
  • Have a demonstrated understanding of basic labor law as it relates to organizing in the workplace;
  • Ability to make good use of Union resources and available tools;
  • Talent to adapt and learn quickly, and keep others informed in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment;
  • Well-organized, thorough, and attentive to detail;
  • Strong computer skills;
  • Must have reliable transportation that can be used for work, valid driver’s license and insurance.

Writing samples and references are required.
