Job Description

POSITION PURPOSE
The WNYCOSH Worker Center assists workers, especially low-wage workers —immigrant, refugee, temp. workers, and native-born— to learn about their rights and organize fellow workers to improve workplace conditions. The ultimate goal of the WNYCOSH Worker Center is to create a programmatic space to foster an informed, engaged membership advocating for positive change in their workplaces, throughout WNY. Worker Center components include outreach, services, education, and advocacy.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and adapt training materials and resources tailored to low skilled, low wage, refugee, and immigrant workers
  • Conduct worker rights trainings, specifically surrounding discrimination, health and safety, wage and hour, retaliation, and organizing rights
  • Conduct outreach to workers in Home Health Care, Construction, Custodial industries
  • Be available for some nights and weekends

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree and 2 years outreach experience or 5 years relevant outreach experience
  • Demonstrated experience working with workers from diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a part of a team
  • Basic knowledge of labor/employment law
  • Strong oral and written communication
  • Strong interpersonal skills

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Experience advocating for workers
  • Knowledge of OSHA, DOL, NLRB
  • Experience with targeted industries
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, iWork applications, experience with Macintosh computers a plus
  • Experience with social media, database management, and graphic design
