Regional Member Strength Coordinator

Based in Northern California

To represent the values of SEIU Local 2015 California Long Term Care Workers. Assist in achieving the members’ Mission, Vision, and organizational priorities in a regional geography; to supervise, train and direct, local union staff, international staff or special project staff under the supervision of the Director; design and implement field plans, and develop staff to effectively execute overall strategies and tactics.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Regional Member Strength Coordinator performs a wide range of duties and responsibilities under the leadership and direction of the Regional Director which may include but is not limited to:

  • Lead, coach, supervise, assign, and evaluate team of staff including developing individual work plans and overseeing their implementation and evaluation.
  • Formulate and administer regional field plans and campaigns, develop campaign budgets, oversee office administration. Authorize expenditures within the campaign budget.
  • Oversee personnel functions of the team including recruitment, interviews and recommendations for hiring staff; staff schedules, approvals for time off, assignments; development and accountability measures to ensure high performing teams.
  • Collaborate with various local union departments to ensure alignment of organizational priorities grounded in the work of organizing new members, bargaining, representation, political engagement, and leadership development.

The Regional Member Strength Coordinator position requires a high level of judgment, leadership, and commitment to the goals of SEIU and its leaders. The Regional Member Strength Coordinator must be able to work independently with elected leaders in complex political and local union situations.

The Regional Member Strength Coordinator must have experience in all elements of an organizing/field campaign, including leading staff, staff supervision, planning, evaluation and budgeting.


  • Five or more years of demonstrated experience in leading large staff teams across multiple geographies.
  • Demonstrated experience in creating and executing field campaigns related to internal/external organizing, contract bargaining, and community/electoral work.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading contract campaigns and negotiating contract standards.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing teams of staff and member leaders.

Working Conditions:
The Regional Member Strength Coordinator must be available for travel. The position covers large geographic areas and often requires temporary assignments away from home as well as long and irregular hours.

Scope and Nature of Supervision:
The Regional Member Strength Coordinator must be able to act and organize his/her time independently and report regularly to the Regional Director. Overall supervision is exercised through the Regional Director.

Criteria for Evaluation:
Regional Member Strength Coordinator will be evaluated for their success in carrying out the duties and responsibilities outlined above. Special attention will be paid to their ability to train, motivate, and lead other staff, to plan and execute campaign goals and objectives, to report regularly on their activities, to work effectively with local leaders, peers and departments across the local and carry out required objectives in a professional manner in keeping with SEIU Local 2015’s overall goals and expectations.
