AFSCME NY Council 66 represents over 8,500 active public sector workers in over 70 affiliated local unions throughout New York State. Members work in a wide range of occupations, including clerical, maintenance, public works, human services and educational support.

AFSCME NY Council 66 currently has a Labor Relations Representative position open in the Hudson Valley region. Labor Relations Representatives are the field staff who work directly with local unions to build their capacity to effectively advance the interests of their members.

The position is full-time (40 hours/week) and offers competitive salary and a benefits package. This position is part of the staff union bargaining unit.

  • Negotiate labor contracts
  • Facilitate grievance procedures
  • Prepare and present grievance arbitrations
  • Working knowledge of relevant labor law
  • Communicate leadership’s goals and objectives


  • Strong commitment to building the labor movement
  • Automobile and valid driver’s license
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience and training necessary to conduct contract negotiations
  • Ability to work well with a wide variety of people
  • Leadership skills to educate and motivate members
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in complex situations
  • Strong public speaking skills
  • Ability to write well and to author letters and contract language
  • Knowledge of or ability to acquire computer skills
  • Extensive experience and demonstrated ability in labor relations, labor organizing or related work
