Senior Organizer

Based in Palm Beach County, FL

Purpose: The Senior Organizer is responsible for the development and direction of the Local’s organizing program. The Senior Organizer responsibilities will include; developing a comprehensive and effective organizing plan for both internal and external organizing, supervising and developing staff organizers, recruiting and developing member organizers, and working with other staff and the Executive Board to carry out the Union’s organizing program.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Conceptualize and build the local’s organizing plan
  • Expand the Local’s organizing capacity
  • Develop and implement both long term strategic organizing plans and annual organizing plans that include;
  • Targeting that promotes member growth and power
  • Campaign development and execution (both internal and external)
  • Development of organizing models that insure membership involvement
  • Recruitment and training of staff
  • Development of a Member Organizing Program
  • Development and implementation of accountability programs for Local leaders, staff and members which results in efficient use of resources
  • Working with Communications, Politics and Representational programs.
  • Plan and deliver organizing training for members and staff
  • Direct and mange staff

Directions and Decision Making: The Senior Organizer will report to the Vice President of Organizing and the President. The Senior Organizer is expected to work autonomously within the policy set by the Executive Board and under the direction of the President.

Education and Experience:

  • High school graduate or equivalent and 4 years of experience in external organizing, including leading campaigns and directing staff. Internal organizing in a right to work state very desirable.
  • Knowledge of advanced organizing strategies
  • Knowledge of organizing standards and training methods
  • Proven record of motivating staff and members
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to make formal presentations and conduct training sessions.
  • Proven ability to direct and oversee multiple projects and staff

Hours and Work Schedule: A 50+ hour workweek is the norm with weeknights and weekends. Must be able to travel extensively throughout the state.
