Project Data Specialists

Project Data Specialists will assist new organizing campaigns with data needs, and support affiliates on the adoption of American Federation of Teachers database and communications tools, including training and supporting staff and leaders. These positions will be employed by projects with the Great Lakes Region based in Chicago IL and the Southwest Mountain Region based in August TX and will involve travel to projects in the assigned region. This is a consultant position; the length of the project will last between 12 – 18 months.

Major Areas of Responsibility

  • Build and support interim data solutions in KNACK, EXCEL and Google documents.
  • Develop and coordinate the execution of plans to enter/load data, match data, and create various reports, particularly related to new organizing campaigns and affiliate transition to AFT new data systems.
  • Work closely with affiliate and National staff, planning and providing support and training as needed on data collection, entry/importing, extraction, and production of reports
  • Work closely and collaborate with leaders and staff on improving data practices
  • Design and maintain processes to ensure data quality control and integrity
  • Increase our capacity to communicate with members and allies
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned
  • Training leaders and staff in data management

Experience and Skills

  • Advanced skills in EXCEL and Google apps required.
  • Strong analytic, problem solving, and project planning skills, with the ability to exercise independent judgment and discern priorities required.
  • Union and/or political organizing background, including production and use of data and lists that support organizing goals, is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written.
  • 2-3 years database work experience preferred, experience in KNACK a plus.
  • Willingness and ability to take direction and function well within a team structure, as well as to coordinate (and at times lead) the work of others on complex projects and campaigns.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully in diverse communities.
  • Willingness and ability to work long and varying hours.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and keep current on the tools needed to support our members.
