Internal Organizer II

This is a posting for Allied Entertainment Division; Internal Organizer II, in the San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento Areas in California pursuant to the BSSU Contract.

The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) is our country’s fastest growing labor union with more than 2 million members. The United Service Workers West (USWW) is comprised of 40,000 property service workers from San Diego to Sacramento. Our union brings together janitors, security officers, residential, stadium, arena and airport workers. These workers are the heart of our union and through their activism the hope for a more progressive California.

SEIU USWW has an internal organizer position available immediately, based in the Oakland Office.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
In addition to performing all the tasks of an Internal Organizer I, an Organizer II must have the ability to perform tasks which include but are not limited to:

  • Organize members and worksite actions;
  • Organize and participate in negotiations and contract campaigns;
  • Perform regular worksite visitations and conduct site meetings;
  • Effectively resolve worksite disputes and problems of membership;
  • Organize and participate in worker/steward trainings;
  • Lead mobilizations and turn-out for actions and meetings;
  • Maintain accurate worksite (building and worker) information;
  • Communicate with company supervisors and managers;
  • Conduct effective house visits and one-on-one communications;
  • Develop weekly, monthly, and yearly workplans
  • Conduct work and committee meetings, including developing meeting agendas
  • Serving as lead for 1-2 internal organizers or a group of member organizers or lost-timers in order to gain necessary skills to be able to lead a team as a senior. Will be done with appropriate training and supervision

SOME OF THE JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Commitment to social justice and sense of judgment
  • Ability to effectively plan and implement work and manage time, as part of a team and individually
  • Ability to travel to other work sites in California, work long and irregular hours
  • Experience in successful contract negotiations
  • Experience and knowledge of computer programs is a plus (including MS Word Office, and internet based email)
  • Experience in external organizing campaigns
  • Fluency in English/Spanish (strongly preferred)
  • Possession of a valid Driver’s License, current insurance, and reliable car
