Campaign Administrative Liaison

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Campaign Administrative Liaison reports to and is responsible for supporting the Chief of Staff. This individual will assist with and help to build SEIU Local 721 campaigns toward successful completion of the campaign’s goals and mission. This position requires the strong collaboration with other Departments within the union.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Plays a primary role in synthesizing goals and strategies and implementing them into comprehensive plans to build power through the leadership team under the direction of the Chief of Staff.
  • May also play a role in driving short and long-term campaigns as needed.
  • Manages long-range projects requiring ongoing leadership with Directors and Senior Department staff, including others in managerial positions.
  • Designs, edits, prepare detailed reports, updates, and materials as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as required to support the Chief of Staff and SEIU Local 721’s mission.
  • Creates and or maintains various data systems for tracking and monitoring staff compliance with department and Union programs such as the membership drive, petition drives, and membership mobilization.
  • Ensures staff compliance with administrative requirements such as Activity reports, attendance records and expense reports filings.
  • Prepares materials, including urgent correspondence, letters, fliers, forms, announcements and coordinates mailing for the Chief of Staff.
  • Establishes and maintains hard copy and/or electronic filing systems.
  • Processes mail and handles phone calls for the Chief of Staff.
  • Works on special projects as assigned by the Chief of Staff.
  • In coordination with the Executive Assistant, coordinates the Chief of Staff’s calendar and travel arrangements if needed.
  • Attends and participates at Manager Meetings, assists with room prep, agenda preparation, types and distributes minutes, and executes follow-up work from meetings.
  • Assists in the implementation and coordination of our local wide events including but not limited to special projects and logistics.
  • May be required to travel and work in different locations for determined periods of time.
  • Interacts courteously and tactfully with managers, co-workers, members, vendors or associates.
  • Performs other duties as required to support the department and mission of the organization.

QUALIFICATIONS:
At least (5) years of grassroots union, political or issue campaign work, or a combination of education and experience that would provide the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Knowledge of unions and organizing.
  • Knowledge of how politics and policy can advance an agenda to build power for working people.
  • Knowledge of strategies used in political and/or issue campaigns.
  • Excellent ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing and make formal presentations.
  • Excellent ability to develop collaborative working relationships with peers especially in a small team context and capable of balancing multiple stakeholders’ interests.
  • Ability to synthetize and develop campaign plans, programs, logistics and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and operate in a fast paced environment to meet the established timelines.
  • Ability to work independently and approach problem solving in a proactive manner.
  • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Skill in the use of personal computer, including Microsoft Office and the Internet.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Basic knowledge of worker’s rights
  • Willingness to work long and irregular hours and participate in all union wide activities.
  • Valid driver's license, working automobile and valid auto insurance with minimum level of coverage required by the union.
  • Commitment to social justice and building power for workers

  • Salary is commensurate based on experience.
