Education Justice Senior Organizer

The Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment (ACCE – www.acceinstitute.org) is seeking a full-time Education Justice Senior Organizer – Los Angeles.

About ACCE: ACCE is a multi-issue, membership-based community organization building the power and voice of poor and working families across the state of California. With offices in 6 cities, ACCE works in local communities and statewide to fight for economic, racial and social justice. ACCE’s grassroots approach prioritizes training and empowering community residents from across the state to wage effective bottom-up campaigns with a heavy emphasis on community action and direct action, as well as policy work and lobbying.

About the Position: We seek individuals with a passion for working with residents of low income communities of color to organize, build their power, and wage campaigns to bring about policy changes and investment that improve the quality of life for poor and working families. The position is full-time position, with benefits, and requires the ability to work some evening hours – the typical work schedule starts mid-day and goes into the evening. Salary is based on experience and qualifications. Women and people of color strongly encouraged to apply.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Build a large base of parents in low income communities of color who want to organize to improve public education in Los Angeles
  • Develop a leadership committee of parents
  • Work with the members and leaders of this group to develop their vision for excellent schools and a roadmap to advance this vision
  • Work with members and leaders of this group to carry out campaigns to implement their vision
  • Participate in a growing coalition working to advance Community Schools and combat privatization

Job Requirements

  • At least 2-years of experience in membership-based organizing, either with community or labor (5-years preferred)
  • Some experience in developing and carrying-out issue campaigns
  • Deep understanding of issues facing communities of color, and low-and moderate-income families;
  • Experience working with coalitions
  • Self-motivated - proven ability to work independently and overcome obstacles;
  • Dedication and ability to work flexible hours;
  • Spanish/English bilingual preferred but not required.

Compensation: The salary for this full-time position is based upon years of experience, but ranges from $51,000 to $80,000 annually, and includes excellent health care and other benefits.
