DEPARTMENT: AFT Public Employees

PAY: $14 an hour for undergraduates and $16 for graduate students

RESPONSIBILITIES:  The student intern will be assigned to work closely with AFT Public Employees staff to help coordinate support for public employee organizing campaigns and member engagement.  Additionally, she/he will work on collective bargaining and contracting out research and salary analysis for government workers as well as issues in criminal justice and public safety. This internship provides a unique opportunity to work closely with staff in an international union and learn about the labor movement.

KNOWLEDGE NECESSARY:  Ideal candidates must have computer literacy in Microsoft, especially Excel and research skills.  Additionally, candidates must have an interest in and understanding of the labor movement and public service.

KNOWLEDGE/ SKILLS GAINED:  The intern will gain experience in researching and analyzing salary data, collective bargaining trends, privatization and issues in criminal justice.   Most importantly, the intern will gain knowledge about the labor movement and its role in improving the lives of professional public employees and improving the institutions where members work.

HOURS PER WEEK:  35 hours per week (negotiable)
