Location: Philadelphia or Pittsburgh, PA

Child Care Providers United (CCPU), a joint campaign of AFSCME and SEIU to organize over 2,500 family child care providers across the state of Pennsylvania, is seeking an organizer/outreach coordinator based in Philadelphia or Pittsburgh.

Child care providers are winning victories for themselves and the families they serve through CCPU, from securing $20 million in new funding for their services from the state to gaining training dollars from the city of Philadelphia to help family providers participate in the universal pre-K program. We are looking for an energetic, committed individual to continue this progress and build a durable organization for family child care providers statewide.

This position includes responsibilities for organizing and mobilizing providers in the western and central parts of the state. This person will also lead CCPU’s efforts in the legislature to raise standards in the field, including winning fair compensation for family providers, and will be responsible for outreach to other stakeholders.

College degree and at least four years’ experience in union or community organizing, or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the following skills:

  • Knowledge of union organizing practice and principles.
  • Experience with coalition-building and mobilization around legislative or political issues
  • Leadership and motivational skills
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Capacity to work independently
  • Knowledge of early childhood education issues and/or the Pennsylvania legislature is desirable.

Other requirements
The position requires extended work hours and extensive travel. The occupant must have a car and a valid driver’s license.

Salary is $58,733. Compensation also includes an expense and auto allowance, health insurance and a pension.
