Training Implementation Specialist

Based in Wilmington, NC
with extensive travel in GA, SC and NC

IATSE Local 491 is looking for a full-time Training Implementation Specialist to conduct training, support training efforts in local areas and act as a subject matter expert as new curricula is being developed. This position is a “hit the ground running” position! The Training Implementation Specialist reports to the Business Agent of IATSE Local 491.

Organization Overview:
IATSE Local 491 represents 17 crafts and 74 job classifications of behind the scenes workers in Film, Television, Commercial and other production in North and South Carolina and the Savannah, GA area.

The goal of this position is to provide members working under IATSE collective bargaining agreements access to attain and maintain a level of skill, ability and knowledge in their respective occupations, necessary to meet the ever changing technologies in Film and Television Production. This is a new position and is presently funded for 24 months.


  • Conduct safety and skills training in geographic regions across the jurisdiction of IATSE Local 491 and elsewhere if assigned.
  • Help identify and then learn new training curricula/workshops for delivery across all IATSE 491 crafts and throughout the jurisdiction.
  • Conduct outreach to other IATSE Local Unions inside Local 491’s geographic jurisdiction promoting training opportunities available through the Local and International.
  • Provide leadership, support and technical assistance developing and implementing the IATSE Local 491 Training Program as well as developing specific training programs.
  • Help local unions and signatory employers identify training needs, as assigned
  • Develop education and training manuals/pamphlets and manuals
  • Other projects as assigned by the Business Agent

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: BA
  • Experience: 5+ years as a trainer/educator plus 5+ years of industry experience, or comparable.
  • Geography: This position is based in Wilmington, NC with extensive travel in GA, SC and NC.

Other Skills/Knowledge/Experience Required:

  • Highly desired - OSHA Outreach Trainer
  • Previous experience in a union or technical not for profit environment is required
  • Previous work in the entertainment industry is highly desirable
  • Ability to work independently

  • Ability to connect people with resources
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to cope with stressful situations
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize workload.
  • Understanding of Taft Hartley Trust Funds a plus
