Lead Organizer

Based in Tucson, AZ

The Southside Worker Center is a membership-based day labor center as well as an organizing center committed to improving the lives of its members by creating a more just world. This organizing position is a unique opportunity to be a part of shaping the (im)migrant-led resistance on the frontlines of the struggle for justice in our communities along the border.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Develop, support and carry out campaigns
  • Supervise volunteers coordinating the day-to-day operations of the day labor center.
  • Identifying and developing leaders to guide and lead campaigns
  • Conduct one-on-one meetings to engage workers in the Center and its campaigns
  • Facilitate larger group organizing meetings
  • Facilitate leadership trainings, including trainings on systems of oppression, and concrete skills (i.e., facilitation of meetings, how to be a media spokesperson)
  • Support and coordinate community collaborations. Build effective partnerships and relationships with community groups and individuals
  • Help strengthen a protection network for undocumented workers
  • Develop and guide implementation of plan to recruit new employers to Center
  • Support grant writing efforts.

Key Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English
  • Be a strategic thinker
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in both languages
  • Ability to work with without supervision to follow a long-term vision and plan.
  • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds, in multicultural environments with all kinds of personalities
  • Ability to represent the Worker Center internally and in the community
  • A demonstrated commitment to social justice
  • Experience working with (im)migrant communities
  • At least 2 years experience organizing in union or community setting; experience working with day labor centers strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work early morning, evening and occasional weekend hours

Salary based on experience, $40,000-$45,000, plus individual health benefits.
