Program Assistant

The Program Assistant will provide research, writing/editing, and other general administrative support to the National Campaigns Director and Senior Program team staff, and execute field-based issue campaign work as assigned.

Reports to: National Campaigns Director

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support program activities by assisting the Program Associate or Senior Campaigns Associate in creating campaign materials, conducting research, tracking on internal databases and creating reports;
  • Assist National Campaigns Director and other Senior Program team staff in writing memos and reports;
  • Assist Campaigns Director and other Senior Program team staff in scheduling meetings; participate in meetings as needed to take and distribute notes;
  • Maintain organization-wide plans and communication;
  • Help book travel for Campaigns Director and program team, assist in logistics for staff conference and events;
  • Assist with Program team project management by tracking benchmarks, deadlines, gathering information and reporting on progress;
  • Provide support with news and media by tracking, reading and providing summaries of requested articles;
  • As needed, attend meetings and events;
  • Available to assist other departments as needed;
  • Build reports in Microsoft Excel, Google Docs and other similar databases;
  • Some travel to support campaign activities or help with building relationships with allies;
  • Assist in member mobilization and organizing campaigns;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Understands Working America’s mission, purpose and can represent us with allies;
  • Experience working with progressive and labor movement campaigns, understanding of canvassing as a grassroots organizing strategy;
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise good political judgment and stay calm under pressure;
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred;
  • Must respect the importance of managing sensitive information in the most discreet manner;
  • Positive attitude and excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Professional, courteous and tactful in dealing with colleagues, stakeholders, and the general public;
  • Demonstrated ability to work in high-pressure environment, prioritize, and meet competing deadlines;
  • Demonstrated experience in taking initiative and maintaining an overview of the content and purpose of the work;
  • Excellent written and communication skills;
  • Ability to work independently and within a team;
  • Excellent problem solving skills;
  • Highly organized, detail oriented, and able to track multiple projects at once;
  • Ability to work long and irregular hours as required;
  • Proficient knowledge of standard office software, including Google, Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point, Access and Outlook. Must be comfortable with the internet and using common online resources.
