Membership Development Coordinator
Salary:
$55,000.00 - $80,000.00

DESCRIPTION: Working under the direction of the Executive Director, develops a membership development program that focuses on building self-sufficient and strong local unions through training, education and other membership development/enrichment programs. Responsible for all aspects of coordinating internal and external union organizing campaigns, including targeting, planning and overseeing staff and volunteer member organizers. Evaluates and guides staff and leadership toward successful completion of projects with a focus on the AFSCME Strong program. Communicate regularly with AFSCME International on the AFSCME Strong campaign. Perform all other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with staff, the membership and employer representatives
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise staff
  • Advanced written and oral communications skills
  • Proven ability to speak effectively in public forums
  • Superior ability to analyze research data and make logical conclusions
  • Skilled in the use of personal computers and associated software
  • Advanced ability to plan, organize and coordinate work activities
  • Strong ability to train and develop staff and local leadership
  • Ability to prepare reports
  • In-depth knowledge of labor unions, internal and external organizing as well as private and public sector labor laws
  • Active participation in strategy development with staff and locals to deal with and favorably resolve problems or disputes
  • Demonstrated ability to respond to deadlines and changing priorities
  • Extended work hours and travel are required
  • Valid driver’s license and automobile required

DESIRED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree or at least five (5) years of demonstrated experience in union leadership position acting in an official capacity to plan, administer and coordinate major union activities
