Lead Organizer

Based in Tacoma, WA

Job Duties

  • Under the supervision of a California-based Organizing Director, initiate and lead campaign to organize new private sector bargaining units in the Seattle-Tacoma region.
  • Lead campaigns in support of first contracts in recently organized Seattle-Tacoma units.
  • In collaboration with other staff, develop and maintain effective organizing database.
  • In collaboration with other staff, maintain comprehensive communications program aimed at organizing targets.
  • Manage local organizing staff and member activists.
  • Pitch in on other projects as necessary to support the goals of the union.

Job Requirements

  • Experience as a lead labor organizer is required.
  • Experience working with medical professionals is highly desirable.
  • Ability to engage with UAPD's highly educated and professional members.
  • Willingness and ability to travel for several days at a time, and to work non-traditional hours including nights and weekends. This is not a 9-5 job.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. You must be able to speak to groups of doctors and write effective copy for organizing materials.
  • Strong computer skills, especially relating to data management. Must be willing to learn new technology as needed.
  • Ability to conduct online and other types of research in support of organizing campaigns.
  • Must be able to work as part of a team.
  • Must be skilled at managing workload, working independently, and reporting results to staff and supervisors.
  • Must possess valid driver's license and automobile.
