External Organizer

Based in Los Angeles, CA

SEIU 121RN is currently seeking an External Organizer to organize Registered Nurses around Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino, Orange, and Ventura Counties. SEIU 121RN represents over 8,000 nurses and healthcare professionals in Southern California. We have been on the cutting edge of progressive activism, building power for healthcare workers, and leading the way in healthcare reform.

SEIU 121RN has an external organizer position available immediately, based in Los Angeles.


  • Conducting broad and intensive outreach efforts to non-union workers.
  • Building one-on-one relationships with workers.
  • Identifying, recruiting and developing worker leaders.
  • Conducting individual and group meetings with workers.
  • Engaging, motivating and mobilizing workers to take action.
  • Planning and executing actions and events to support worker organizing efforts.


  • Ability to meet deadlines and juggle a large workload in a fast-paced campaign environment.
  • A strong interest in the labor movement, and/or the healthcare industry
  • Strong ability to connect with highly educated nurses and professionals of varying backgrounds in pursuit of a common goal.
  • Ability to work independently while also being able to incorporate constructive feedback and direction from campaign leadership.
  • An independent and critical thinker with the ability to learn and understand complex issues quickly.
  • Willingness to work long and irregular hours.
  • Ability to travel throughout Southern California frequently and for long periods of time.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Bilingual in Spanish or Chinese and English is a big plus


  • Salary is competitive and negotiable (based on Staff Union Contract)
