International Union Staff Representative

The International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers (IFPTE) has an opening for an International Union Staff Representative located in California. The primary function of the IFPTE Staff Representative is to assist our local unions within the geographical area of their assignment with organizing (internal and external) and other campaign support. Travel is involved as a number of Locals around California need assistance.

This position requires a seasoned staff representative with successful organizing experience, experience in bargaining and other facets of union representation.

  • Previous organizing experience is highly desirable;
  • Strong ability to communicate both verbally and in writing;
  • Ability to meet and deal effectively and persuasively with individuals and groups in a variety of stressful environments;
  • Strong personal planning and time management skills;
  • Excellent listening skills;
  • Works well independently within the context of a plan as well as on a team;
  • Computer proficiency is required for email, internet, word processing, spreadsheet and database programs;
  • Commitment to preserving and enhancing good, middle class jobs;
  • Ability to work beyond a forty-hour work week that includes evenings and some weekends that are compensated;
  • Travel includes throughout California, and some throughout the U.S. and Canada where we also represent members;
  • A passport and drivers license is a required.

There is some flexibility with the home base location.
