Director of Contract Affairs

The national labor union, Stage Directors and Choreographers Society (SDC), seeks a Director of Contract Affairs to join its senior professional staff.

The position oversees a staff of four and is responsible for the formulation of strategy, coordination of resources, and implementation of negotiation and organizing efforts that align with the Union’s long and short-term goals across all jurisdictions. The Director of Contract Affairs establishes and maintains relationships with employer counterparts in order to effectively negotiate, administer, and enforce contracts; investigates grievances recommending responses in an effort to preempt arbitration; and protects the interests of Members by interpreting and enforcing all matters relating to the terms and conditions of employment of Stage Directors and Choreographers.

The position reports to the Executive Director.

Successful candidates will have:

  • 10+ years of relevant work experience, theatrical entertainment industry experience strongly preferred;
  • Extensive knowledge of labor relations and human resources practices;
  • Well-developed negotiation skills and an ability to negotiate agreements among divergent interests;
  • Demonstrated ability to solve highly complex problems and resolve conflicts;
  • A strong capacity to engage, influence, collaborate, and develop credibility among Union leadership, Members, employers, and other industry stakeholders;
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with a high degree of patience and tact. Must be able to cultivate respectful, strategic, and collaborative relationships with people from diverse backgrounds both internally and externally;
  • Demonstrated successful organizational management and supervisory experience including coaching, guiding, and supporting of employees to enable them to reach their full potential.
