Union Organizer

The Retail Organizing Project (ROP) of the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU/UFCW) is seeking a Union Organizer to build power for workers who are organizing in retail to achieve neutrality agreements, win elections, achieve good contracts, and maintain strong union shops. The RWDSU combines innovative organizing strategies with traditional committee building in order to win victories for workers and build power for the union.

The ideal candidate will have experience in both ground organizing with workers and community coalition building and/or corporate campaigns.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years organizing experience
  • Experience with NLRB election process
  • Experience with corporate campaigns and/or coalition building
  • Experience with social media organizing
  • Willingness to work long, irregular hours and evenings or weekends as needed
  • Willingness to travel as needed
  • Ability to work well both as a team member and on solo projects

Potential Job Duties

  • Recruit, train and build strong workplace organizing committees
  • Conduct targeted outreach to probe for workplace issues
  • Research potential targets on the ground and online
  • Maintain organizing committees throughout first contract campaigns
  • Represent unionized workers and maintain strong membership engagement
