Digital Communications Specialist

The Alliance for Retired Americans is seeking a Digital Communications Specialist.

BASIC FUNCTION:

Develops and implements digital strategies and outreach campaigns to target members, potential members and supporters. Plays a key role in building communities on various social media platforms and increasing the Alliance for Retired Americans' online influence and engagement.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the daily posting to and management of all the Alliance's digital media platforms including, but not limited to, the Alliance website, email lists, Facebook, Twitter and Flickr.
  • Reports on website analytics and other digital media metrics to develop strategies with the Communications Director.
  • Assists with any launch, redesign or updates of organization’s website(s) or social media platforms.
  • Monitors comments across all Alliance platforms and responds in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • When required, assists Communications Department in writing, editing and proofing.
  • Manages organization’s email list on Action Network. Drafts and disseminates email blasts advocacy messages. Creates other “actions” (petitions, event notices, forms, etc.) as necessary.
  • During events, posts on social media, takes pictures and films video as necessary.
  • Uses graphic design and video editing software and online tools to create memes and other visual content.
  • Provide training to other Alliance staff members and state Alliance volunteer web managers in use of Wordpress and Action Network.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • 1-3 years of experience working in a communications role at a labor union, political campaign, advocacy or membership organization.
  • Proven proficiency with major social media platforms and Wordpress required.
  • Excellent writing skills with attention to detail when reviewing, editing and proofing material.
  • Experience with Action Network, InDesign and/or Adobe Suite preferred.
  • Experience shooting and editing video (Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro, etc.) a plus.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
