Citizen Action of New York is a statewide grassroots membership organization that fights for social, racial, economic and environmental justice. We work at the grassroots to build power in communities across New York State. We collaborate with organizations and coalitions to win on key issues and elect progressive candidates at the local, state and federal levels.

Citizen Action of New York is seeking a Database & Membership Coordinator to serve as the primary database administrator and coordinator of the organization’s membership program. The primary responsibility of Database & Membership Coordinator will include database maintenance and support for our central office and six regional offices and expansion of our dues-paying membership base. This includes assisting staff with work on election campaigns, developing materials and resources to encourage membership recruitment, and facilitating small to large donor management campaigns.

Responsibilities include:

  • Work with our online databases to make sure systems continue to meet our needs
  • Working with our team of community organizers to develop regional fundraising plans and goals
  • Provide motivation, tracking and support to our whole staff on meeting fundraising goals
  • Scheduling fundraising support and trainings for staff and chapter volunteers
  • Training staff to use our database systems
  • Develop custom reports to provide information to staff
  • Manage and conduct list enhancement (NCOA, Voter Match, etc)
  • Identify sources for and collect additional data (Voter Files, Catalist, etc)
  • Develop processes to share data between various systems
  • Manage users, permissions, logins for our online databases
  • Provide support to staff on Google Apps installation
  • Assist the communications department in advancing digital membership and other recruitment campaigns
  • Track and analyze response data from digital campaigns
  • Explore new tools and technology and propose innovations for Citizen Action in order to cultivate and engage members
  • Develop and document operating procedures

An ideal candidate will have the following qualifications

  • experience working with databases for political and/or community organizing
  • familiarity with CiviCRM, Action Network, VAN, Catalist and Wordpress preferred
  • experience with small donor fundraising, including data management
  • experience with providing technical support by phone
  • experience facilitating trainings, meetings and workshops
  • experience working with a nonprofit organization - experience with electoral campaigns preferred
  • commitment to progressive change and movement-building
  • willingness to work long and irregular hours, including late night or early morning hours, as well as weekend hours, especially during elections
  • willingness and ability to travel to different cities across New York State
